After the relative failure of 2005′s album Drama, it could well have been the writing on the wall for the Most Successful Girl Group of All time. A lot of effort had been put into the album and it’s disasterous and disappointing chart position could have put an end to any further releases. But Bananarama being Bananarama the end was nowhere in sight. There was still steam in Sara and Keren and they weren’t about to retire… just yet.

The album started out as a covers album, and the girls had seleted an eclectic mix of tracks for the LP. Over the course of recording the tracks Sara & Keren played some to Peter Lorriaine of Fascination Records (previously in charge of the girls’ fan club) and he liked what he’d heard. He persuaded the girls to record more original material and then offered them a deal to release the album. To the delight of fans accross the globe, Bananarama’s 10th studio album Viva was to be released by a major UK label and get the exposure it deserved. Viva was released in September 2009.

It was preceded by one week by the release of lead single, Love Comes. The single almost didn’t make it onto the album as it lay on the cutting room floor until producer Ian Masterson reworked the instrumentation into a poppier, more commercial sound.
