Japan Avex Trax - AVDD-20079
Released: July 1995
UK chart position: Non UK Release
The
first single from Bananarama's seventh album Ultraviolet was a double a-side
of I Found Love and Every Shade of Blue released in Japan. While writing material
for their new album, Bananarama enticed well known Japanese dance guru Tetsuya
Komuro to write a piece of music for them. They were, however, unimpressed with
the backing track he sent, but were bullied by their management to try and write
something over the track to appease everybody. The result, was the lyrics and
melody of I Found Love - which was recorded in a different key to that of the
backing track. Suprisingly, all the record companies liked the result, and the
original version was issued on the Japanese single as well as the US album of
Ultraviolet as a bonus track. Bananarama opted for their current producer Gary
Miller to rework the song into the ROZI mix for issue as the main "a"
side of the Japanese single - which they were much happier with. The Japanese
single was issued as a 3" single and a rare 12" DJ-only promo (which
includes the reminiscence mix - which emulates Bananarama's Stock, Aitken &
Waterman sound with a touch of 90's).
"It wasn't actually going to be on the US release. . . we've met
him a few times . . . and he wanted to do something with us . . . we couldn't
get our schedules together to work with him in person. He sent us over this
track, which, I hope he never gets to ready this, we told our manager, "you
must be joking", it was the biggest piece of pap I've ever heard. It sounded
like a street band or soemthing, it sounded so bad. I'd heard some of the stuff
he'd done dance-wise, and it was great - brilliant, fantastic stuff. However,
he just sent over a backing track, basically Al said "please just try and
wrote something over it, then it'll at least show you had a go, and we'll send
it back say it's the best you could do but it's just not good enough".
It's in the wrong key. We did the best we could and everybody loved it"
