BANANARAMA - Long Train Running (Polydor)
Unknown Source, 1991
Bananarama have returned with a tune that isn't a patch on the brilliant frothy
disco that was their last single Preacher Man (yeah I know I said it was useless
as the time, but it grew on me, alright?). It's a song that was recorded in
the 70s by dodgy hippies the Doobie Brothers, and the 'Rams have sauced it up
with a disco beat and some flamenco guitars, but it's still a trifle lame (especially
as the original was rather brilliant!). There are some good tunes on the chicks'
new album (Pop Life), but this ain't one of 'em!

I've never been a fan of these ageing pop stars, prancing around trying to look
sexy, and this is a load of rubbish. I like the Gypsy kinds mind you . . .

Bananarama. They have a new single out. They've thought up a new, crap, out-of-time
dance routine and they're gonna have another hit. All in all, Bananarama give
this rather chaotic world a reassuring sense of order, don't they?

(Rumour has it that this might be the Nana's last single. But they are the best
selling girl band of all time so things can't be too bad)
Craig: It's got a great bassline and it seems to be a progression from what
they used to be.
Clint: It's like getting with it, but not like Transvision Vamp.
Chart Position: Top 10 Rating: 4 out of 5 (Clint);
3 out of 5 (Craig)
