BANANARAMA: Venus (Liberation)
Smash Hits (Australia) 25-Aug-1986. Review by Karen Booth

This is real ordinary. It's sooo lightweight I advise placing a rock on it to prevent it from spinning right off your turntable. The vocals harmonise pleasantly and have all the texture and oomph of whipped cream. Just like Shy Boy, it is sure to be a dancefloor darling. Which, I suppose, seems to be exactly where Banana girls Siobhan, Sarah and Keren are aiming these inoffensive vinyl missiles so who are we to suggest they shift from the rhythmically sensual to the cerebral. On second thoughts, it's better they stay right where they are.

BANANARAMA - Venus (London)
Just Seventeen (UK) 1986

The girls have done it again. Bananarama, responsible for classics
like Robert De Niro's Waiting and Cruel Summer have re-invented
themselves. Venus, a cover version of an old Shocking Blue song from the seventies, is a feverishly energetic track, thanks to producers Stock,
Aitken and Waterman (they produced last years Dead or Alive Number 1, You Spin Me 'round...) Rumour has it that the video is fantastic. A big
hit in our opinion.

BANANARAMA - Venus (London)
Number One (UK), 1986

After a quiet couple of years, those girls next door have bounded
back with one of their best records yet. Venus is Bananarama's 10th, yes 10th, single!, and just goes to show that the girls have what it takes
to be big in the charts. Keep an eye on this one. Rating - - Hit!
