Junkie - Keren Woodward
Telegraph Online
In the early 1980s, while living above the Sex Pistols' rehearsal room in London,
Keren Woodward formed Bananarama, one of the most successful girl bands ever.
Two decades later the revitalised group's single, Move in My Direction, topped
the dance chart and their ninth album, Drama, is out now.
The 44-year-old singer lives with Andrew Ridgeley, formerly of Wham!, in Cornwall.
Which piece caught your eye from the recent shows? A glamorous Roland Mouret
dress - black, with a varied knee-length and a beautiful shoulder detail. He's
so talented and handsome, and was Bananarama's art director/stylist for a while,
giving us very cartoonish hourglass figures.
Which designers do you favour?
We have the luxury of a stylist and racks of stuff to choose from - I love Julien
Macdonald, Roberto Cavalli and Vivienne Westwood.
What is on your wish list?
I will definitely buy a Tara Jarmon velvet coat (tarajarmon.com) and I love
the trend for long skinny scarves. I've just been on a spree, buying five dresses,
two jackets and a shirt, all from Diane von Furstenberg in Ledbury Road, London
W11 (020-7221 1120; dvf.com).
Which shoes do you covet most?
I love the Chanel stiletto boots and Christian Louboutin court shoes - they're
so flattering.
What has been your biggest fashion indulgence?
I've always splashed out on underwear. I never wear anything that's non-matching.
Even if nobody is going to see it, I know it's not right. I shop at La Perla
(laperla.com).
Which are your favourite shops? I enjoy one-stop shopping, preferably including
a leisurely lunch. Harvey Nicks and Selfridges suit me very well because I can
also buy my cosmetics and shoes without having to walk too far.
Which cosmetics would you be lost without?
I like using a Chantecaille base and Chanel make-up. MAC's body make-up is a
lifesaver as I hate fake tanning.
What's on your bathroom shelf?
I'm addicted to Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée honey bath and
bodywash.
What scent do you wear?
Moschino perfume, and I also like Bulgari, both Black and Blu.
Would you ever consider Botox?
The only lines I have are crow's-feet. I've thought about Botox but I am worried
because I do react very badly to a lot of things. Maybe I'll wait 10 years and
see what else is on offer.
What do you wear for a night out?
Sadly, I don't often dress up in Cornwall as there isn't anywhere glam enough
for me! I mostly wear Seven jeans. The same applies in London most of the time.
I must be going to the wrong places because to me it seems that nobody dresses
up any more.
What do you wear when you are relaxing?
At home I walk my two springers called Poppy and Percy most mornings, so it's
Hunter wellies and waterproofs or a fleece.
Which are your favourite places to eat?
The Blue Tomato cafe at Rock after dog-walking around the estuary, and Rick
Stein's fish and chip shop in Padstow.
What is the biggest fashion mistake you have ever made?
We had loads of hideous looks. The one thing that really makes me cringe is
a penchant for strange brimmed hats, regardless of the fact that they really
didn't suit me.
